On Monday (August 19), students will be returning to school. Please be mindful of the following: *Traffic will be heavier in the mornings between 7:00 & 8:30 and in the afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00. Watch for increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic, especially around schools. * Obey school bus flashing lights and stop signs. * Watch speed limit changes in school zones. * Stay off cell phones and pay attention to what's going on around you. * Obey directions given by school crossing guards. *Follow established pick up and drop off procedures set forth by your child's school. For those walking or riding bikes: * Pay attention, don't assume traffic sees you. Stay off your cell phone as much as possible. If you're listening to music or an audio book, keep the volume down to where you can still hear traffic. *Walkers, use sidewalks or stay to the far edge of the roadway. Don't walk in traffic. Also, don't cross streets unless you're at a cross walk or intersection. Do not attempt to cross the roadway from between parked cars. * Bike riders, don't blow through stop signs, and ride safely. When it rains, pet waste left on lawns, trails, and sidewalks can be washed into a storm drain. Pet waste contains pathogens that end up in our lakes, streams, and the ocean where it decomposes which leads to eutrophication and ultimately the death of our aquatic plants and animals. Do your part and pick up the poo. #avoidpoo-llution #SWPPP #washmo #waterwisewednesday

At the start of September, Washington’s Parks and Recreation will be participating in the Annual Nationwide Parks for Pollinators Bio-Blitz. The project is a way for the community to get a better understanding of all the plant and wildlife that are in our parks. Follow the instructions below on how to join Washington’s group after you download the iNaturalisit app. Once in the app, you will be able to take pictures of plants and wildlife within the parks system and upload them to our page. You can add as much or as little of a description as you want because people will be able to collaborate within the app to identify the species or give more information on it. Uploads can be made any time in September to count as a part of the Bio-Blitz. We hope to see you out there!
