Wonders of Wildlife Animal EdVenture is a hands-on animal program, where children will interact with educators to embark on their own EdVenture! Join us as we explore the habitats of animals and discover their journeys. We will track and observe your favorite critters, big and small! Be prepared to hop, skip, tiptoe, and more as we explore with some adventurous animals!

Chelsea Tornetto, award-winning children's book author and author coach from Jackson, MO, will read her picture book, Gardens Are For Growing. The book is a lyrical, rhyming picture book celebrating how growing a garden is like raising children, and how the simple joys of childhood are what draw us all back home. The reading will be followed by a kid-friendly craft activity and book signing.

A runaway juvenile was reported in the area of Rabbit Trail Drive. He was later located and returned home.
A traffic complaint was handled in the 2200 block of Weber Heights Drive
A child custody issue was handled in the 700 block of Nora Street
Solicitors were contacted all over the city. They were instructed to obtain a permit through the city.
A call for illegal dumping was handled in the 500 block of East 14th Street
A call for peace disturbance was handled in the 600 block of East 7th Street
A traffic crash was reported in the area of Oak Street and West Front Street. One of the drivers was found to be impaired and was taken into custody for DWI.
A subject was taken into custody for DWI during a traffic stop that was initiated for speeding.

Uncontained trash is a common source of stormwater pollutants. Bagging your trash before it goes to the landfill is an easy way to keep the trash where it belongs and helps keep your streets and waterways clean.

It's time for the Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest! If your child is in grades 1-6 and lives in or attends a school within the Washington Fire Protection District, they are eligible to enter the contest. Flyers will go out to our schools later this week. Your child may have to ask for one at your school office. Homeschoolers are also welcome to enter! Please read the rules carefully and get the posters in before the deadline. We can't wait to see your work!

1) In Mapping St. Louis, author Andrew Hahn tells the story of the city from its founding to the present day by interweaving 40 maps along with short essays and detailed views. Mapping St. Louis is your guide to charting the city’s rich history, and it may spark ideas about where St. Louis may be heading! Hahn is a 7th-generation St. Louisan who has been passionate about history and maps since he was a kid. Since 2003, he has worked as director of the Campbell House Museum, an 1851 townhouse in downtown St. Louis. This is his first book.

KEYNOTE EVENT
Join award-winning author of the Kingdom Keepers and Lou Boldt series, Ridley Pearson, for an exciting presentation on the art of storytelling on Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m. at Washington High School’s CJB Theater. This event is part of the 2024 Missouri Book Festival.
Ridley will guide writers and readers of all ages through his process of observation, “livening,” and editing. The talk will feature stories of his experiences working with Disney and direct examples from his own published writing. Following his talk, there will be an interactive Q&A and book signing.

Request for Proposal
The City of Washington, MO (City) is seeking proposals from qualified companies to perform collection processing, hauling and disposal of residential solid waste, recyclables, and bulky items. As well as optional alternate proposals for design, construction, and operations of a new transfer station. The operation of the Transfer Station includes the loading and processing of all waste received, as well as transportation and disposal of all solid waste. Any contractor that wishes to provide such a proposal for services shall submit said proposal utilizing the following information and instructions.
Sealed proposals will be accepted until September 27, 2024 at 10 am and shall be hand delivered to

Sealed envelopes shall be clearly labeled “2024 Residential Solid Waste, Recyclables, Bulky Collection Hauling and Disposal”. Two copies of the proposal shall be included within the sealed envelope. Proposals by mail or fax will not be accepted. Unsigned proposals will not be accepted. Proposals arriving after the above specified time will not be accepted.
Each proposal will be opened and publicly read beginning at 10 am on September 27, 2024 in the office of the City Clerk.
