What do these little dots in Colorado mean to us? It's almost Race Across America time! WashMO doesn't have the Olympics or the Tour de France, but we do have world-class athletes racing through here every year. The leading cyclists left Oceanside, CA on Tuesday afternoon, and are currently making their way through Colorado. We will start seeing the racers and their support teams as soon as Sunday, and the multi-person teams will come throughout the week. This year's roster consists of 27 solo racers, 4 two-person teams, 12 four-person teams, and 3 eight-person teams, representing 15 different countries! Of note is a team of disabled Veterans. These amazing athletes are hot and TIRED, as they have already cycled 2/3 across the country by the time they pass by here! PLEASE BE NICE and represent the best of WashMO hospitality! Please give them room and a little patience- they will be on Hwy 100 and Hwy 47. (They don't choose the route, and are not allowed to detour to less busy roads). Thank you!

What is bioretention? It is a landscaped depression that is designed to collect and treat stormwater from impervious surfaces before the stormwater moves into a storm drain and into a waterway such as a local creek or river. This Thursday and Friday, Washington will host two advisors from American In Bloom (AIB) as they see all the hard work that our city staff has put into the parks and the city. Each year, we host AIB to show off Washington and see improvements that can be made to increase the beautification of our city. AIB's goal is to do this with plants, flowers, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements. As a department, we work hard to make sure our parks and city are in top-notch shape for this event. We are very excited to welcome the advisors this Thursdays!
