WASHINGTON, Missouri - Dave Wehmeyer was the proud recipient of the Musco Lighting Give Back Award at the Missouri Park and Recreation Association (MPRA) conference in Branson, Missouri on February 20th. Dave was nominated for his dedicated service to his community, serving the underserved and reducing barriers to access programs or facilities that can help those in need. MPRA recognizes and honors citizens and organizations in the state that have rendered outstanding service to their community in the state of Missouri.
Dave serves as a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission and the Urban Forestry Council and is very involved at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Dave has been an active volunteer in Downtown Washington Inc.'s community clean up efforts, and a vital participant and leader in several community and master gardening groups. In addition to supplying the plants and flowers to the Town & Country Fair's Flower Show, he has been the Flower Show Chairman since 1983. Dave started the Invasive Tree buyback program for the City of Washington, as well as the Free Tree program to build the City's local canopy. For the City of Washington 175th Anniversary, he helped plant 175 trees. Dave started the Plant & Sip program, an educational series that helps raise money for the Washington in Bloom program, for which he sits on the board. Dave's service does not end with landscaping and beautification efforts, as he volunteers with other community programs such as Keys to Change, Manna & More.
