Engineering

The Engineering Department manages and inspects City infrastructure and right-of-way. This includes streets, sidewalks, bridges and stormwater drainage system. The Department also assists with public works infrastructure projects for water and sanitary sewer systems. As well as inspections of sewer lateral repairs and replacements.

Permits through the Engineering Department include work in public right-of-way, on private sewer laterals, grading and subdivision developments.

New developments are reviewed by the Engineering Department as well as the Planning & Zoning and Building departments.

Roadway or Traffic concerns can be reported to the Engineering Department. Traffic issues are typically reviewed by the Traffic Committee that meets on the first Friday of every month.

Department Goals:
The Engineering Services Department provides technical expertise in comprehensive planning, code enforcement and supervision of the construction and maintenance of public works projects. These services are provided to ensure public safety, health, welfare and orderly growth of the City. The department goals are to maintain City sidewalk and curb and gutter infrastructure and bring up to current ADA standards. Provide street maintenance, rehabilitation and reconstruction in the most cost efficient manner. Maximize AutoCAD and GIS systems to provide all City departments with useful mapping information. Minimize sanitary sewer system inflow and infiltration. Establish a schedule for construction of landfill phases and ensure its cost effective operation in conformance with MoDNR requirements. All City buildings meet minimum standards for occupancy and safety. City is bicycle and pedestrian friendly. Provide the public with user friendly information.
