Washington Missouri Community Garden (WMCG)
Established in 2019, the Washington Missouri Community Garden is located on the western slope on the grounds of Peace Lutheran Church in Washington, MO. The church collaborates with WMCG for the use of this green space. The garden beautifies the grounds, inspires its onlookers, and contributes much of its harvest to Saint Francis Borgia’s Food Pantry & small, locally owned & operated restaurants in Washington MO. The garden is managed by a steering committee which is comprised of lifelong & Franklin County Master Gardeners (FCMG) who carefully tend to the garden space.
Interest in gardening - specifically the ability to grow one’s own food - has increased in the past couple of years. For some individuals, the biggest hurdle is having the space to plant a garden. The community garden takes this barrier away and provides a location where an individual can grow their own food and connect with others who do the same. As an advantage, Franklin County Master Gardeners & lifelong gardeners are available to give advice & growing tips to individuals with plots.
The garden features 12 garden plots for lease to individuals interested in growing. Plots sizes are approximately 7 X 10. Garden plots for the growing season lease for $25. Plots are tilled on opening day & irrigated throughout the growing season (April – November) for you at no additional charge.
Individuals or families who are interested in starting their own garden to raise fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers are encouraged to complete a garden application.
The application can be emailed or returned to:
